The short version
This comparison uses each vendor’s current pricing page: HubSpot Sales Hub captured in a live proxied browser session on 2026-09-19 (full breakdown in our HubSpot terms check) and Close re-fetched the same day (Close pricing check). It is a terms comparison, not a hands-on test — no CRM was configured on either side.
The seat prices make Close look cheaper and HubSpot look more capable, and both readings are partly right. Three structural differences decide the bill:
- HubSpot charges a required one-time onboarding fee; Close does not. Professional carries a $1,500 onboarding and Enterprise $3,500, in the page’s own words “required, one-time.” Close is self-serve from signup with no setup line item. On a single Professional seat that fee is larger than the first year of seats, so it cannot be read off the tier card.
- AI is bundled into the seat at Close and metered separately at HubSpot. Close’s per-seat plans include 500 / 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 AI credits per user per month (shared pool, refresh monthly, no rollover). HubSpot’s AI credits are an additional purchase at about $9 per 1,000, on top of the seat and the onboarding fee.
- The entry points are opposites. HubSpot has a genuine free CRM (up to 2 users, no card) but its paid tiers start at $7 and climb to $90/$150 with onboarding attached. Close has no standing free plan — only a 14-day, no-card trial — but its cheapest paid seat is $9 with no setup fee.

A note on Close’s tier names: the page currently lists Solo / Essentials / Growth / Scale. An earlier pass on 2026-09-10 recorded Team / Organization / Enterprise; the vendor has since relabeled and added visible monthly prices and explicit AI-credit allowances, so this article uses the current names.
Evidence boundary on the monthly figures: Close’s annual prices ($9/$35/$99/$139) are anchor-verified with screenshots from our 2026-09-19 proxy Playwright session. The monthly figures ($19/$49/$109/$149) are present in the page’s source DOM and were confirmed in a separate cloud fetch, but our headless browser could not reproduce the pricing toggle’s visual switch to capture them on screen, so treat those monthly numbers as page-source values rather than screenshot-verified in our run. Every first-year calculation below uses the screenshot-verified annual prices only.
The first-year bill, onboarding included
The seat gap shrinks once the required onboarding fee is in the calculation. These are straight multiplications of the printed annual per-seat prices; they are not quotes.
One person, professional-grade plan, first 12 months
- Close Growth: $99 × 12 = $1,188, no setup fee.
- HubSpot Professional: ($90 × 12) + $1,500 = $2,580 — the onboarding fee is 58% of that total.
Five seats, first 12 months
- Close Growth: $99 × 12 × 5 = $5,940, no setup fee.
- HubSpot Professional: ($90 × 12 × 5) + $1,500 = $6,900 — onboarding once, $1,500.
Ten seats, first 12 months
- Close Growth: $99 × 12 × 10 = $11,880.
- HubSpot Professional: ($90 × 12 × 10) + $1,500 = $12,300.
The shape: the onboarding fee dominates at one or two seats and dilutes as the team grows, because HubSpot charges it once while Close never charges it. From year two on, the comparison flips back to the raw seat math — HubSpot Professional at $90 is $9/seat cheaper than Close Growth at $99 — so a large, stable team that clears the onboarding year can land on the HubSpot side, while a solo or a 2–5 person team pays noticeably less to start on Close.
Entry tier is the reverse story: HubSpot Starter at $7/seat with no onboarding fee and a free 2-user tier is the cheaper way to put a CRM in place for almost nothing; Close’s cheapest real option after the trial is Solo at $9. HubSpot gives away the floor and charges at the enterprise step; Close charges from day one but keeps the line flat.
AI: bundled credits versus a separate meter
This is the comparison the tier cards hide. At Close the AI agent (“Chloe”) and an AI-credit allowance are part of the seat — 500 credits per user/month on Solo up to 2,000 on Scale, pooled across the team with a monthly ceiling and no rollover. The trial includes Chloe. At HubSpot, AI credits are an additional purchase at roughly $9 per 1,000; our HubSpot check works out the theoretical single-action math (a 50-credit Customer Agent conversation is about $4.50 at that rate) and flags it as a conversion, not a printed per-action price.
Read it as two pricing philosophies: Close folds a bounded AI allowance into the seat so a small team gets some agent usage with no second invoice, but the pool caps and expires. HubSpot keeps the seat price lower relative to its enterprise feature set and meters AI on top, so light AI users do not subsidize heavy ones, but a team that runs the agents hard adds a real, separate line — after already paying onboarding.
The currency catch is on HubSpot’s side, not Close’s
Our non-US session opened HubSpot’s pricing page in Japanese yen (¥840 / ¥10,800 / ¥18,000), with no working URL parameter to force USD — only the in-page currency switcher. The yen figures are an exact 120x multiple of the USD figures, so a yen quote elsewhere is the geo-default view, not a different price. Close’s page rendered in USD in our session with no currency surprise. Anyone budgeting either tool should re-open the page from their own location and read the symbol before copying a number; the structural points above (billing unit, onboarding, bundled vs metered AI) are currency-independent.
Where each one fits
- Close fits a solo rep or a small outbound team that wants calling, email sequences and a CRM in one per-user seat, prefers AI usage folded into the price, and wants to start paying immediately with no setup fee. It is not a fit if you need a free, unmetered standing plan — only a 14-day trial exists.
- HubSpot Sales Hub fits a team that wants to begin on a genuinely free CRM, values the wider HubSpot platform and marketplace, and can absorb a required onboarding fee in the first year before the lower per-seat enterprise price pays off. It is not a fit for a one-person operation that cannot justify $1,500 of onboarding on top of a single seat.
What we did not verify
- Neither CRM was operated: no workspace created, no seat purchased, no pipeline configured on either side. All figures are page-printed text captured in the stated states.
- Close’s per-tier contact and email-volume caps and its feature-gating detail live in expandable plan sections; the page states unlimited contacts on paid plans, but we did not diff every cap.
- HubSpot’s free-tier contact limit is not printed on the pricing cards we captured, so we do not state one.
- The Close figures here come from a 2026-09-19 text re-fetch; the screenshot carried in our Close terms check is dated 2026-09-10 and shows the previous tier labels. A fresh Close capture is the natural next evidence pass before quoting a monthly price.
- AI-credit consumption in real workflows (how many credits a given Close or HubSpot agent action actually uses) is not something a pricing page settles.
