The short version
Checked against two official ClickUp Help articles on 2026-09-18 in a proxied desktop browser session, with every figure below present in the rendered page’s text layer and captured in the evidence screenshots. This is a documentation/terms read — we did not buy an add-on or spend a single credit, so there is no score.
The single most important thing the pricing page does not spell out: ClickUp AI runs on two different currencies at once.
- Unlimited (“fair use”) Brain — the assistant, premium models and reasoning, project summaries/updates, AI writing, and web search. These do not deduct credits; they are gated by a fair-use policy.
- AI Super Credits — a metered, workspace-level bucket that pays for the autonomous and generative features: Super/Autopilot Agents, AI Fields, AI Assign & Prioritize, AI Cards, Ambient Answers, and image generation. Credits renew monthly and do not roll over.
How many metered credits you get depends entirely on which add-on you buy.
The three AI add-ons, from the official boundary table
| Add-on | Price | Unlimited fair-use Brain? | Metered AI Super Credits | Notable extras / exclusions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brain AI (formerly AI Standard) | $9/user/mo | Yes | 1,500 per user/month | 25,000 words shared across the workspace for AI Talk to Text (this cap does not reset); excludes AI Notetaker and AI Time-Blocking |
| Everything AI (formerly AI Autopilot Bundle) | $28/user/mo | Yes, plus unlimited fair use of AI Fields, Assign/Prioritize, Cards, Ambient Answers, Autopilot Agents, and image generation | 5,000 per user/month (spent on Super Agents) | Includes AI Notetaker and AI Time-Blocking; MCP Server rate limits aligned to the public API; two hours of 1:1 onboarding |
| AI Super Credits (standalone) | $0.001/credit, sold monthly in $10 blocks = 10,000 credits | No — no Brain, writing, summaries, web search, or onboarding | Funds Super Agents, AI Fields, Assign/Prioritize, Cards, Ambient Answers, Autopilot Agents, image generation | Pure top-up for workspaces that only want the metered features |
Two boundary details worth pausing on:
- On Everything AI, the everyday metered features (AI Fields, cards, image generation, Autopilot Agents) move to unlimited fair use; the 5,000-credit allowance is then reserved specifically for Super Agents. On Brain AI, by contrast, those same features all draw from the 1,500 bucket. (Reading inferred from the two columns of the official boundary table — the Everything AI row lists those features under unlimited fair use and tags the 5,000 credits “for use of Super Agents”; the help article does not state this contrast in one sentence.)
- The standalone AI Super Credits add-on buys only the metered actions — it explicitly does not include the Brain assistant, AI writing, or summaries. It is not a cheaper way to get ChatGPT-inside-ClickUp.
What each action actually costs (per-action table)
From the official “How are AI Credits consumed?” table. Credits are deducted only when an action runs — building a Super Agent costs nothing; it starts spending when it executes its prompt.
| Premium AI feature | Estimated credits per use |
|---|---|
| AI Fields | 10 |
| Create tasks from Chat messages | 10 |
| AI Assign | 10 |
| AI Prioritize | 10 |
| AI cards | 20 |
| AI image generation | 100 |
| Autopilot Agents / Super Agents | 100–300 (varies with complexity and number of actions) |
ClickUp describes these as estimated figures; actual consumption “varies by the complexity and number of actions used by the feature,” and agents are billed under a “Super Fair Billing” policy.
Doing the allowance math
At $0.001 per credit, a Brain AI subscriber’s 1,500 credits are worth $1.50 of metered usage; Everything AI’s 5,000 credits are worth $5. These are theoretical single-action ceilings from the official $0.001 unit price (ClickUp labels every per-action figure an estimate, and real usage mixes feature types), but they make the allowance’s durability concrete. On the Brain AI bucket:
- ~150 AI Field / Assign / Prioritize / Chat-to-task actions (10 each), or
- ~75 AI-card generations (20 each), or
- ~15 image generations (100 each), or
- ~5–15 Super/Autopilot Agent runs (100–300 each).
The agent ceiling is the one that bites: a workspace that lets a handful of Super Agents run on triggers can realistically clear 1,500 credits in a week or two, which is exactly the case Everything AI (or a $10 top-up block) exists for.
The three Super Agent workflows explain the 100–300 spread
The same article walks three worked examples, which is the clearest look inside why an agent run is not a fixed price:
- Simple (“Bug Helper”) — 5 actions: pull the bug-report Chat message, create a task, load objects to judge priority, update the priority field, reply to the thread.
- Intermediate (“Bug Researcher”) — 8 actions: all of the above plus web search, workspace search, and a task comment proposing a fix.
- Complex — 10+ actions: all of the intermediate steps plus retrieving similar tasks, creating a Doc, and diagramming the fix.
More tool calls per trigger = more credits, hence the 100–300 range rather than a single number.
Two easily-missed gotchas
- AI Talk to Text’s 25,000-word cap does not reset. Brain AI bundles a workspace-shared 25,000 words for Talk to Text, and the help table explicitly marks this limit as non-resetting — unlike the monthly credit bucket. A separate AI Talk to Text add-on offers unlimited transcription; the two should not be confused.
- AI Notetaker is 20 free hours, then metered separately. More hours are sold in monthly blocks starting at $12/month for 60 hours. Notetaker is included in Everything AI but not in Brain AI.
How this differs from our ClickUp pricing coverage
Our ClickUp limits-matrix page covers the platform tiers (Free/Unlimited/Business/Enterprise), their Lists/Folders/automation ceilings, and the $9/$28 add-on list prices as printed on the pricing page. This page covers the layer underneath those prices: the two-currency model, the per-action consumption table, the Brain/Everything feature boundary, and the Talk-to-Text and Notetaker sub-limits — none of which appear on the plan cards.
Honest scope and limits
- Documentation read, not a live spend test. We did not subscribe or trigger metered features; the 10/20/100/100–300 figures are ClickUp’s published estimates, and real agent runs vary under Super Fair Billing.
- One rendered table set. Our browser session was served the core consumption table and the three Super Agent workflows reproduced above. A cloud fetch of the same URL surfaced additional, more granular per-feature rows (e.g. change detection, voice/transcription actions) that were not present in our session’s page text or screenshots, so we have not asserted any of those numbers here; treat them as account/region/rollout-dependent and confirm in-app before budgeting on them.
- Promotional vs list pricing. The add-on prices ($9/$28) match our 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-18 pricing-page captures with zero drift, but ClickUp runs annual/promotional discounts; the help-center model and the checkout price can differ.
- Monthly reset, no rollover. Unused Super Credits and the $10 top-up blocks do not carry into the next month.
